November 2012 -- Obama vs. Romney for President

Bret gets out of bed one night saying that he cannot sleep.  At that time we are watching one of the debates and Bret asks if he can watch it with us.  A little while in he says... I think that guy (Romney) is saying what we want to hear to get us to vote for him, then once he becomes President, he is not going to do any of those things.

The kids had mini-elections in their classes on election day -- what a great idea to start educating them about this so early!!  In Jake's 4K classes Obama won.  In Bret's 2nd grade classes Romney won. 

Obama won the election - 4 more years in office. 

School

Tuesday, September 4, 2012 -- The first day of school!

Jake began 4K at Janssen Elementary, half days every day.  This is his first year of school.  He was excited to go to school where his big brother goes, meet his new teacher and meet new friends.  When we dropped him off on his first day, he was excited, but then when we headed for the door he had a look of "lost".  We knew he would be fine, but mommy walked away with a big lump in her throat... sniffle.

Bret began 2nd grade... where does the time go?  Bret was a little hesitant at first, but then getting to see some old friends got him more excited.  As we were walking into school on the first day, Bret's friend Julia was sticking her head out of the car yelling, "Bret... Bret".  Then she bounds out and says, "I am in 1st grade this year and get recess... so at recess time today I am going to chase you".  Bret doesn't acknowledge her.  Julia's older sister, Mary, says to Bret, "Bret, did you hear that Julia said she is going to chase you at recess today?"  Bret says... "Yes, I heard her...augh".. and turns the other way.  LOL!  Just wait a few years right...  ;)

Baseball

We won our first game last night and were leading the entire second game, but the other team pulled ahead in the last inning – 12-13.  A 3^rd place finish/trophy’s (Bret’s first trophy) for our team – Happy Joe’s!!  Bret had lots of tears, which makes us realize how much he really did enjoy playing.  Bret kept saying, but we worked so hard for this and only 3^rd?  Well… think of how far you have come, how much you learned this season, and getting a trophy is a big deal, all of the teams below you do not even get that.  And Jake thought the trophy was cool… Bret, can I touch it, Bret, can you put it somewhere where I can see and look at it, etc…  Cuties! (Bret’s little supporter/looks up to him and he doesn’t realize that yet)

Here’s a funny – The final game we played against our friend Peterson’s team.  As Bret was pitching (which would be manning the position next to the batting machine), he was tooting and the coach from the other team who was right next to Bret manning the machine sniffs and says to Bret… geez, it stinks, are you farting.  Bret… maybe… with a smirk.  ;)  Steve Peterson was the coach on first, heard the whole conversation and couldn’t stop laughing.  LOL!

Here’s to a hopefully next year baseball season!!

Monday

I was home with sick kids on Monday and since Bret wasn't eating much I asked them what they wanted me to make for lunch... soup, mac&cheese... something easy on their tummy's.  Jake turns to me and says... what day is it today.  I say... Monday.  He goes on to say... I don't eat mac&cheese or sleep on Monday's. 

Baseball

We are at Bret's baseball game and at the end of the game we start walking off as the coach says, Bret... who's hat are you wearing?  Bret pulls off the hat and inside it says Ashton.  Coach says, Bret do you know how I knew you didn't have your own hat.  Bret... no.  Coach... because the hat I am holding says Bret.  Bret turns to me and says... awkward!  LOL!!

Dog

So we are walking back from the park and run into our neighbor who is taking their 6 mth old labradoodle, who is big and fuzzy and brown, for a walk.  Jake turns to our neighbor and says... your dog looks like a big turd!  Our neighbor says well... he is brown.  Oh my... what do you even say to that?  LOL!!

Baseball

Bret had his first baseball game yesterday (machine pitch) and he did awesome.  First base hit, played all positions on the field and even suited up for his first time as catcher.  Awesome job B!!
