Okay, I'm significantly behind...thanks for pointing that out Marnie. Sorry this post is so long!!
Happy belated birthday to Uncle Andy!!
Jake got tubes on January 30th. The surgery went very well and we believe his hearing has improved quite a bit. Unfortunately, he got ANOTHER ear infection last week. He was sent home with a fever on Tuesday and his regular doctor said one tube looked great and the other was plugged. Then on Friday he had a follow up with the ENT/surgeon that put them in. He said things were looking much better and had cleared up quite a bit. He's been cranky the last day or two again....we think more teeth on the way. He currently has seven.
As reported a few weeks ago, Jake is crawling. Apparently that's not good enough because he's now also standing on his own all the time. In his crib, by the end table, boxes...whatever is stable enough to pull up on. He's working on his balance, but if he doesn't get that figured out pretty soon he's going to start having frequent accidents. No fear!!
Soccer has ended and swimming lessons have started for Bret. He's smaller than some of the kids in his class and upset that they are able to go under water. Bret has never been a fan of getting his face wet, in fact I think Jake handles it better than he does. Bret continues to show interest in numbers and adding. I see him adding string of numbers together (like addresses) and he gets a surprising amount of them right. He loves to ask us what is 100 + 100 + 100 + 100.....etc. I'm pretty sure he thinks 100 is an amazingly huge number. He has also started picking up on radio station call letters....you are listening to WOZZ. "Daddy, what does W-O-Z-Z spell?" Today we went out on the ice to see a few sturgeon. He has been asking me to take him fishing alot lately. "Daddy, when its snowing will you take me on the ice and make a hole so I can fish with you?" I would LOVE to take him but I know his attention span will be close to zero when the fish don't start biting immediately.
Saturday we went to Disney on Ice. Bret and Jake both paid very close attention for the first hour....excellent boys. Jake was a little squirmy after the intermission and Bret fizzled out right at the end, so I would say the show was the perfect length. Bret's favorite part was right at the beginning when the Zamboni broke down and Donald and Goofy knew the magic buttons to push to make it work again. We all enjoyed when the baby from "The Incredibles" peed on the ice. Grandpa Dale and Uncle Roy's son Tyler went with us and we all had yummy lunch at Kroll's afterward. Nana was supposed to go but she has been very sick....get well soon!!
Today we were in the neighborhood of Toys 'R Us so we decided to stop in and spend some gift cards Bret has been accumulating for awhile. We knew EXACTLY what we wanted to get....a children's digital camera and an AC adapter for his Leapster because he uses batteries so quickly. We had enough on the gift cards to get both without spending another dime. Well, instead of got a Wii (and spent much more than anticipated). Check out the video....Bret absolutely loves it (and so do Mommy and Daddy). It started out with several gutter balls and a few sniffles, but he quickly got the hang of it and bowled a 128. We NEED to have a family game night VERY soon!!
One more funny....last weekend when I was gone fishing in Minnesota, Bret plugged the toilet with TP and flushed enough times to make it overflow. April said he was extremely upset and was crying very hard because he thought he was going to be in trouble. After things settled down and April got the mess cleaned up, he asked her what she did with that thing that looked like Larry Boys' ear.
